Garage Door Panel Replacement in Newport Beach
A bumper dent or a cracked bottom section does not always mean a whole new door.

Garage door panel replacement swaps one dented, cracked or rusted section, not the whole door. It works when the maker still offers your design and color. Bristlecone notes the brand, model, style and size, then checks whether a match is available. If it is not, we tell you before quoting, so you can weigh a panel against a new door.
Signs You Need Panel Replacement
- A dent or crease runs across one section, often from a car bumper or a stray ball.
- A crack has opened along a panel seam or around a hinge mount.
- Rust is bubbling through the paint on the bottom section, where water and salt sit longest.
- One section bows inward and rubs the track or the door frame as it moves.
- A hinge or roller bracket pulled loose because the steel around its screws tore.
- The bottom section has split and lets in water, sand or pests.
How We Do Garage Door Panel Replacement
- Read the label and measure. We look for the maker's label on the inside of the door, note the model, and measure the height, width and thickness of the damaged section.
- Confirm a match, then quote. We check that the section is still made in your design and color. You get one price for the part and the labor before anything is ordered.
- Order the section. The new section is ordered to fit your door. If the door is safe to run, you keep using it while the part comes in.
- Release tension and swap it. We unwind the springs, unbolt the hinges, lift out the damaged section and set the new one in place with its hinges and rollers.
- Rebalance and test. The springs are wound back, the balance is checked, and the door runs full cycles to prove it tracks straight and seals at the floor.
Panel Parts and Options
- Steel sections. Steel is the most common type. A single steel skin is light and simple; an insulated section adds a foam core and a second skin, which makes it stiffer and quieter.
- Wood and wood-look composite. Real wood can crack, swell or rot along the bottom edge. Composite sections copy the look of wood and need less upkeep, but they must match the grain pattern of the door.
- Aluminum and glass. Full-view doors use aluminum frames with glass or acrylic panes. A cracked pane can sometimes be replaced without changing the frame.
- Window sections. The top section may hold glass inserts, and a new one has to line up with the design below it.
- Bottom section and seal. The bottom section carries the cable brackets and the weather seal, so it often wears out first.
Matching Color and Style
Sun and salt air can fade a door over the years, so a new panel may look brighter than the old ones. We mention this upfront. A dent near the bottom can also bend the track or a roller. We check for that and add track repair if needed. If several panels are damaged, a new door may be the better value.
Panel Safety
A garage door section is not a simple cover you can unscrew. The bottom brackets hold the cables, and the cables hold the full force of the springs, so taking the wrong bolt out can make a bracket or the door itself jump. A cracked section can also fold as the door bends over the curve of the track. If a panel is badly damaged, close the door, unplug the opener and leave the swap to a technician.
Repair the Section or Replace the Door?
Panel replacement is the right fix when:
- One or two sections are dented, the rest are fine
- The door still runs straight in its tracks
- The maker still offers the same panel design
- Springs and cables are in good shape
A whole new door is the better buy when the maker no longer offers your section, when rust has spread across most of the door, or when the cost of several sections comes close to the price of a complete door. We give you the panel quote first, so the choice is yours.

Panels are quoted on site because price depends on the door model and color. Full price list
What changes the final price? Panel replacement is quoted on site because each door is different. The maker, model, width, material, insulation, color and any window inserts all affect the cost of a section, and the bottom section also needs new brackets and a seal. Damage from the same impact is priced from the owner list: track from $150 per door, rollers from $120 per set and cables from $150 per cable. The diagnostic is $0 with a completed repair.
Panel Replacement Across Our Service Area
In Newport Beach, salt air works on the bottom section first, where water and sand collect against the seal. In Newport Coast, custom and wide doors need careful matching, and a color change may need your association's approval. On Balboa Island, a garage that opens straight onto an alley gives a car little room to swing, and a bumper can crease a section. In Costa Mesa, a short drive inland, we match panels the same way and point out any color difference from sun fading before you order. Prices are on our pricing page, and you can add a photo of the door to your request on the contact page.
Panel Replacement Questions
Can you replace just one dented panel?
Often yes, if the maker still offers that panel. We check the brand and model before we quote. A single bottom or middle section can be swapped without touching the others, as long as the door still runs straight. If the dent also bent the track, we add track repair to the same visit.
Will the new panel match?
The design should match. The color may look a bit fresher next to a sun-faded door, and we tell you that before ordering. Some owners paint the whole door afterward so every section looks the same. If too many sections differ, a new garage door can be the cleaner choice.
Is a dented panel safe to use?
A small dent usually is. A deep dent near a hinge or roller can affect how the door runs, so have it checked. If the door shakes, rubs the frame or stops partway, stop using the opener. Forcing a bent door can pull the track loose, and our garage door repair visit will check the whole system first.
Why is panel replacement quoted on site?
Because the price depends on your exact door. The maker, model, size, material, color and any windows all change what a section costs. We look at the door, confirm a match exists, and give you one price before anything is ordered. If the impact also frayed a cable, cable repair is priced from $150 per cable.
Can rusted panels be fixed instead of replaced?
Light surface rust can be cleaned, primed and painted. Rust that has bubbled the paint or eaten holes through the steel means the section is weak, and patching rarely holds near salt air. A rusted bottom section also carries the cable brackets, so replace it before a bracket tears loose and turns a slow problem into an emergency repair.
