Garage door track repair fixes the rails that guide the door. A bent track, a loose bracket or worn rollers can make the door shake, scrape or jump out of line. An off-track door is not safe to run. Bristlecone secures it, straightens or replaces the track, sets it plumb and swaps worn rollers so the door runs smoothly again.
Signs You Need Track Repair
- Rollers have popped out of the rail, or the door hangs crooked in the opening.
- You hear scraping or grinding as the door travels up or down.
- A rail shows a bend, a dent or a gap where two pieces meet.
- The door wobbles, jerks or stops at the same spot every time.
- Brackets feel loose, or their bolts have rusted or backed out of the wall.
- The left and right edges lift unevenly.
What Knocks a Door Off Its Track?
- A car or bin bumping the bottom section
- Worn or rusted rollers that bind
- Track bolts that loosen over time
- A broken cable that lets one side drop
How We Repair Garage Door Track
- Secure the door. If it has left the track, we clamp it in place and take tension off where needed before anything else moves.
- Measure and inspect. We check that both rails are plumb, level and the same distance from the door, then look over every roller, bracket and bolt.
- Price the work. You hear what needs straightening or replacing, and the total, before we start.
- Fix the rails. Bent sections are straightened or swapped, brackets are tightened or replaced, and worn rollers come out as a set.
- Test the travel. We run the door through full cycles, listen for rubbing, and recheck the opener force and reverse after the change.
Parts and Options
Standard, high-lift and low-headroom track. On a standard setup, the rail bends toward the ceiling a short way above the header. High-lift track climbs higher up the wall before it turns, which suits tall ceilings. Low-headroom track uses a tighter turn for garages with little room above the door. We repair the type you already have.
Steel and nylon rollers. Steel rollers are tough but can rust and turn noisy. Nylon wheels with sealed bearings run quieter, and the wheel itself cannot rust, which helps near salt water.
Brackets and fasteners. Track brackets tie the rails to the wall and ceiling. Close to the coast, corroded bolts can loosen or snap, so worn ones are swapped for new hardware during the repair.
Track weight. A heavy door needs thicker track and wider rollers. A rail that is too light for its door tends to bend again.
Track Safety
A door that has jumped its rail may come down with no warning at all. Do not run the opener, do not hammer a rail back into shape, and do not loosen track bolts while the door is up. The bottom brackets hold the lift cables under full spring tension, so leave them alone. Keep children and pets out of the garage until the door is secured.
Rollers, Brackets and Alignment
We check that both tracks are the same distance from the door and level with each other. Rollers with flat spots or cracked wheels get replaced as a set. In coastal garages, rust on the roller bearings is common, so we look closely at those. If a cable caused the problem, the quote includes cable repair. A dented bottom section may need panel replacement.
Track Repair Service Area
We repair tracks in Newport Beach, Newport Coast, Balboa Island and Costa Mesa. Track repair starts from $150 per door and rollers from $120 per set on our pricing page. For a door that is hanging now, see emergency repair.
In a narrow Balboa Island alley, a turning car can clip the bottom of a door and push a roller out. Near the harbor in Newport Beach, salt can seize roller bearings so the wheels drag. Wherever you live, from Costa Mesa to Newport Coast, a heavy door riding on track that is too light can bend the rail over time.

The total moves with the damage: how many track sections are bent, whether brackets or bottom fixtures need replacing, whether the rollers need a full set, and whether a cable slipped off its drum when the door left the track. Each item is on the quote before you say yes.
Repair or Replace the Track?
Most track problems end in a repair, not a new door. Replacing both rails makes sense when rust runs along their full length, or when a door is changed and needs a different track type. If the door itself is cracked or badly bent, compare the cost with new garage door installation before putting money into old parts.
Track Repair Questions
Can I push the rollers back into the track?
No. An off-track door is heavy, can be under spring tension, and may drop if the other side lets go. Leave it where it is, keep cars and people clear, and unplug the opener so nobody presses the button. Call us so we can secure the door first, and see emergency repair if it is hanging now.
Why is my door shaking as it moves?
Shaking usually comes from worn rollers, loose track bolts or a rail that has been bent out of line. Rust on roller bearings, common near the harbor, makes the wheels drag instead of spin. We find which one it is, tighten or replace the parts, and check the springs too, since a door out of balance can shake as well.
How much does track repair cost?
Our owner list starts track repair and off-track doors from $150 per door, and roller replacement from $120 per set. The final price depends on how many sections are bent, whether brackets must be replaced, and whether a cable came loose too. You approve the total before any work begins, and cable repair has its own starting price.
Should rollers be replaced all at once?
Usually, yes. Rollers wear at about the same rate, so when one has a flat spot or a cracked wheel, the rest are rarely far behind. A full set keeps the door running evenly in both tracks. Rollers are priced per set on our list, from $120 per set, and the swap often fits into a general garage door repair visit.
Can a bent track be straightened, or does it need replacing?
A gentle bend or a loose joint can often be pulled straight and bolted tight. A track that is kinked, cracked or rusted through should be replaced, because a weak spot can let a roller jump out again. We show you the damaged section and price both options before you choose, and a dented bottom panel may need panel replacement too.
